Multinational companies transport US$18 trillion worth of merchandise to consumers around the globe every year—contributing to the significant environmental footprint of the transport and logistics sector, which is responsible for 15 percent of energy-related global carbon dioxide emissions annually. More business leaders today recognize that improving freight efficiency leads to reduced emissions, demonstrates climate leadership, and delivers business value.
The Smart Freight Leadership Roundtable 2016 will be a one-day event with keynote addresses from an industry association, development agency/funder and policy makers, and interactive discussions with 10-20 leading corporations.
The morning will focus on the three specific areas identified at the 2015 roundtable:
- Setting emissions reduction targets for freight and logistics and supportive measurement, reporting, and verification standards
- Identifying priority technologies and measures that are impactful and scalable
- Articulating what specific support from government is most required to enable real change, covering policies, programs, institutional frameworks and infrastructure.
The afternoon will aim to identify what concrete commitments business leaders have been or will be making. These commitments are linked to the and tie into the broader policy asks and industry commitments that successfully made it into the climate agreement at COP21, through the work of the coalition of 黑料正能量 and other business networks.
