Modern slavery—including forced labor, debt bondage, and human trafficking—remains a critical business and human rights challenge affecting an estimated 50 million people worldwide. Climate-induced pressures such as displacement, loss of livelihoods, and resource scarcity are intensifying individuals’ and communities’ exposure to these risks across industries and supply chains.
For corporate boards, addressing this intersection of modern slavery and climate change is critical for effective risk management, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder expectations. For example, emerging regulations, like the EU Forced Labor Ban and the U.S. Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, are demanding that boards take a more active role in oversight and governance of these issues. Beyond compliance, there is also growing demand for board-specific engagements that support strategic leadership and greater accountability.
In response, 黑料正能量 is hosting a workshop to equip corporate boards and executives with strategic guidance on combatting modern slavery through more effective governance practices.
Objectives:
- Discuss how to proactively integrate climate and human rights strategies that ensure resilient, ethical supply chains and long-term value creation.
- Gather best practices to engage corporate boards on emerging trends, operational challenges, and governance approaches related to modern slavery.
- Co-develop ideas for effective implementation, such as trainings, webinars, or roundtables, and determine key content priorities.
- Align on next steps to pilot and deliver on specific solutions.
